Requirements to become a Chartered Accountant

Route 1: Through Foundation Course

(i) Enroll for Foundation Course after appearing in 10+2 examination or Class XII examination.

(ii) Complete 4 months Study Period. (Eg: Register before 31st December for being eligible to appear in May Foundation Course Examination.)

(iii) Appear in Foundation Examination after passing in Class XII on complying with (ii) above. Foundation exams held thrice a year in January, May and September.

(iv) Join Intermediate Course after passing Foundation Examination.

(v) Undergo 4 Weeks Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft skills (ICITSS) consisting of Courses on Information Technology and Orientation Course at the earliest but these are to be completed compulsorily before commencement of their article-ship.

(vi) Appear in Intermediate Examination on completion of 8 months of study course as on first day of the month in which the examination is to be held. Inter exams held thrice a year – Jan, May, Sept.

(vii)  Register for Final Course

(viii) Join articled training for 2 years after passing either of the Group or Both Groups of Intermediate Course and after successfully undergoing ICITSS.

(ix) Successfully undergo 4 Weeks Advanced Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft skills (AICITSS) consisting of Courses on Advanced Information Technology and Management Communication Skills after completing practical training but before appearing in the Final Examination.

(x) Appear in the Final Examination on completion of the practical training + six months after articleship is completed. 

(xi) Pass Final Examination.

(xii) Enrol as a member of the ICAI and be designated as “Chartered Accountant”

Route 2: Through Direct Entry Scheme

A. Commerce Graduates/Post Graduates (55%)
(or)
Other Graduates/Post Graduates (60%)
(or)
Passed Intermediate level exam of ICSI or IC(M)AI

Student who is a –

a) Commerce Graduate/ Post-Graduate (55%) Eligible to appear in June/ December Examination after completion of 4 Months study period and after appearing in Class XII Examination • Graduate/ Post-Graduate Other than Commerce  (60%) or

b) Passed the Intermediate level Examination of Institute of Cost Accountants of India / Institute of Company Secretaries of India  or

c) Under- Graduate* / Post- Graduate* in the last year of their Graduation / Post- Graduation

can register for CA-Intermediate with ICAI.

Step 2 onwards apply – same as mentioned above.
